Let's Try This Again

Living in a small apartment with kids can be challenging, but also rewarding.

Hi, I am Small Apartment Mom. Back in 2014, I had the idea to start blogging again. But I wrote once and then stopped. Don't ask me why but it was during a rather difficult time in my life. Which interestingly does connect to what I am now making this blog about.

In 2014 I was living in what I will call a community living building. Make with that what you will. Basically, it was this temporary living arrangement between when I had left Wyoming and moved to Idaho. It wasn't a situation I had planned on being in, but I was in it, nonetheless. Then in 2016, I moved into a new place. Given the circumstances of the time, I moved into a two-bedroom apartment. It was much more spacious than what I had currently resided in, which was essentially a single room with a bathroom. An oddly shaped bathroom and I blame whatever contractors built it because it went from not narrow on one side to narrow on the other. The new place has its own oddities in construction, but it is also 40+ years old. Older than me and I am now in my 40s.

In the beginning, there was enough room for me and two small children. Who of which are now a legal adult and a teen, respectively. I was asked if I would share a room with my daughter and while it was more room than I had had before, it was not enough for two beds. My bedroom is the front room. Which is not much different from the previous resident where everyone slept in the same room with a bed and bunkbed. Though one child slept with me because they were, and still are, terrified of bunk beds. Now, having lived here for 6 years this past July, it has become a small apartment with the accumulation of furniture and whatnot. Honestly, I need to minimize my belongings again.

And that is what this blog will be about. I plan on making it the main blog to a whole website with subdomains. One of which is located on WordPress because it was part of a college capstone project. And the other because it's already on there but not yet published. So, about half of the subdomains will be separate sites until I finally make everything fully connected via the same platform. I hope to focus the topics on overall life as a small apartment mom. I won't promise that I have all the answers to how to live life as a small apartment mom, but I can certainly make it a journey worth sharing.

I do hope to get a bigger space someday, but until then, I'm here. In this now too-small-to-live-in-with-my-current-needs apartment. Let's just say my hobbies, my daughter's medical supplies, and my son's growing need to Gamer-fy his room (being the smallest since his sister needs the bigger room for medical purposes) take up a bulk of the space. I mean, I have no dining area anymore since now it's an "office" due to when I was attending college and working from home. I was tired of keeping everything at the side of the couch because it felt tight and cluttered and not separate from the general area (when the couch it put up) and my bedroom (when the pull-out bed is out).

I hope you enjoy this blog. I am still in the process of properly re-setting all that I had up before and revamping blogs and all the fun stuff. I'd appreciate hearing stories of other people living in a small space. Whether it is an apartment, a house, or any other form of living they may be in. There are certainly pros and cons to this kind of lifestyle. The first official post for this refurbished blog will be on January 8, 2024. Be sure to follow this site to see when the new blog posts. Have a happy holiday season, since there is a lot to give recognition to this time of year and have a happy new year.
